Master's degree
Period of admission: 2 years 30 credits
To qualify for the degree of master, you must satisfactorily earn a minimum of 30 credits from coursework and pass a thesis defence.
(Divisions except for Cooperative Program for Resources Engineering)
- A minimum of 16 credits must come from Primary field of study - courses offered by your Division/Subject Group. However, if deemed necessary by your supervisor, 2 credits may come from a new course (introduced after your enrolment) or courses offered by other Divisions or other graduate schools within or outside Hokkaido University including those overseas.
- A minimum of 4 credits come from the Secondary field of study - courses offered by another Division/Subject Group or program approved as a secondary field of study. Only one division or program can be chosen a Secondary field of Study.
- The remaining 10 credits come from Advanced exercise (laboratory seminar and research guidance).
- TOEFL 79/TOEIC 730/ IELTS 6 or equivalent. *Only for those enrolled before October 2020.
- Fulfil the requirements on the number of presentations/paper published, set up by the division. Please check the student manual of your year of enrolment.
(Cooperative Program for Resources Engineering)
- 6 credits must come from Common compulsory subjects.
- A minimum of 12 credits come from Specialised elective compulsory subjects. However, if deemed necessary by your supervisor, 4 credits may come from courses offered by other Divisions or other graduate schools within or outside Hokkaido University including those overseas.
- 2 credits come from Cooperative Program for Resources Engineering Special Seminar
- The remaining 10 credits come from Graduate School Exchange Seminar elective compulsory subjects.
- TOEFL 79/TOEIC 730/ IELTS 6 or equivalent *Only for those enrolled before October 2020.
- Fulfil the requirements on the number of presentations/paper published, set up by the division. Please check the student manual of your year of enrolment.
Doctoral degree
Period of admission: 3 years 10 credits
To qualify for the degree of doctor, you must have satisfactorily earned a minimum of 10 credits from the coursework and passed the dissertation defence.
- 2 credits come from Advanced Study (research guidance in your division)
- A minimum of 8 credits shall be earned from the coursework. If you got M.Eng. from HU, these courses must be from Divisions other than the one you graduated from.
- Fulfil the requirements on the number of published papers set up by each division. Please check the student manual of your year of enrolment.
- TOEFL 79/TOEIC 730/ IELTS 6 or equivalent *Only for those enrolled before October 2020.

- All publications and courses that can be counted toward graduation requirement must be in English.

- All e3 doctoral students are subject to a progress evaluation by the program committee at the end of the 1st and 2nd year of their program.
