About the laboratory
Description
Laboratory of Micro-Biomechanics is engaged in research projects in the area of biomechanics, bioMEMS and mechanobiology. We aim to contribute to further understandings of cell structures and functions from the viewpoint of mechanics, and to provide smart devices and techniques for clinical applications. Since our laboratory has many foreign students from various countries, students can experience international environment with different cultures and thoughts.

Organization of research
The events in our lab are to have a weekly lab meeting where students give a talk about their research progress a weekly lab seminar to acquire fundamental and advanced knowledge regarding to the field of biomechanics. Master course students regularly do their course work as well as work on their own projects. PhD students mainly focus on their own projects and in part take care of Master and Bachelor students. Our facilities includes a clean room for cell culture, a standard tensile/compression testing machine, a fluorescence microscope, a micro-gravity machine, a 3D printer, micro-tensile tester, a stretching machine, etc.
Enrolled students' research topics
Decision of research topic is quite flexible. Some research options will first be provided by the lab but students can also provide their thoughts if they have an interest on particular topics.
Information for potential applicants
Applicants' background
We are looking for students with good knowledge in strength of materials and fluid dynamics and with a basic knowledge of biomechanics.
Who should apply?
Students with a strong interest in basics and application of biomechanics.
How to choose a research proposal topic?
It would be preferable if the proposal is related to the laboratory's research profile and the topic of the applicant's interest.
How the research proposal is evaluated?
We evaluate the student proposal based on (1) basic knowledge and understanding the research question, (2) strong motivation to solve the question and finish your Master's or Doctoral course (3) story of the proposal and logical discussion and (4) English.
