Effect of temperature on membrane fouling mitigation by electrode respiration

Research abstract

Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs) can achieve high quality water treatment and be operated under high MLSS concentration. These advantages allow to reduce sludge and to save its footprint. For a widespread use of MBRs, membrane fouling is a crucial problem. Especially, severe membrane fouling occurs under low temperature operation. On the other hand, electrode-respiration can mitigate membrane fouling that attracts attention these days. However, only few articles on a membrane fouling mitigation under low temperature were published. In this study, I focus on membrane fouling mitigation by electrode respiration in Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC) and work on verification of temperature effect on membrane fouling mitigation by MFC under low temperature.
