Lectures

This is a list of lecture courses I run. The old website used to store lecture materials, but all the lecture courses below now use Moodle system, and the materials have been moved there. I am one of the few academics in the Division of Civil Engieering to have at least one lecture course every term when students are enrolled to Courses of Civil Engineering / Public Policy and Engineering.

Graduate School of Engineering

Soil Mechanics (English)

16 lectures, Spring Term. The course introduces soil's deformation and strength characteristics, along with fundamentals of elasto-plasticity and continuum mechanics.

Public Policy School

Omnibus course on natural disasters and mitigation

The 2nd Term, in charge of 3 lectures in one day. The lecture instroduces a brief history of anti-seismic design of civil engineering structures in Japan in geotechnical perspective.

School of Engineering

Mechanics of Soils I (English)

16 lectures, Winter Term in the 2nd year. This is an introductory course of soi mechanics, dealing with basic soil properties, seepage, ground stress, compaction and consolidation.

Gootechnical Foundation Engineering (Englsih)

8 lectures (8 more lectures by Dr. Isobe), Autumn Term in the 3rd year. This course is a sequal to Soil Mechanics II and deals with various topics in geotechnical engineering, including unsaturated soil mechanics, stability analysis, ground improvement, etc.

Exercise in Mechanics of Soils

14 tutorials, 1st Term in the 3rd year. All the six academics of soil mechanics participate in these tutorial sessions and instruct on problems related to the topics covered in Soil Mechanics I and II.

Applied Mathematics II

8 lectures (8 more lectures by Prof. Uchida), 2nd Term in the 2nd year. My lecture part deals with complex number calculus.

Exercise in Applied Mathematics II

8 tutorials (8 more tutorials by Prof. Uchida), 2nd Term in the 2nd year. These are supplementary tutorial sessions to Applied Mathematics II.

Exercise in Technical English I

16 lectures/tutorials in 1st Term, 2nd year. Inviting an native speaker as instructor, this course gives an introduction to technical writing in English.

Civil Engineering Laboratory II

5 tutorials in 2nd Term in the 3rd year. I am in charge of instructing on liquid limit / plastic limit tests.

First Year Education Division

Freshman Seminar 'Buradoboku' - Think of cities and infrastructure -

2 lectures (of 16-lecture omnibus series), 1st Term in the 1st year. My lectures discuss relationship between city development and ground conditions, taking Sapporo as example.
