The main objective of this COE program is to establish the sustainable society by developing
leading edge water treatment systems, appropriate waste disposal and recycling systems, and
technologies for sustainable infrastructures. In order to accomplish it, we have set up the
following three sub-groups; 1) Water Metabolic System Group, 2)Waste Metabolic System Group, and 3)
System for Sustainable Infrastructure Group.
Water Metabolic System (Group 1), which works on the establishment of water metabolic system
attempts to integrate the study results of leading edge water and wastewater
treatment systems using membrane filtration and resource recovery technology
from wastewater, aiming to develop elemental technologies concerning autonomous
water utilization and recycling system over the next five years.
Waste Metabolic System (Group 2), which is in charge of construction waste metabolic system attempts to
integrate the study results on appropriate final disposal system for solid
waste and resource recovery technology from waste material, aiming to establish
elemental technologies concerning urban mine, urban forest and parks utilizing
secure landfills over the next five years.
System for Sustainable Infrastructure (Group 3), which works on the
development of system for sustainable infrastructures attempts to develop
highly durable and recyclable construction materials and repairing/retrofitting
technology for prolonging service life of structures, as well as methods for life cycle prediction of concrete
structures over the next five years. We will also develop the comprehensive management methods in order to integrate
the overall study results of these three groups.
We will attempt to establish the "sustainable metabolic system of water and waste for
area-based society" as our ultimate goal with further advancement of our research and
cultivation of most excellent young researchers
