Division of Architectural and Structural Design

Introduction

This major course is aimed at developing "Viewpoints," "Theories" and "Technologies" related to new plans and designs for structural and urban spaces that are geared toward pleasant and sustainable living environments. By integrating three research viewpoints - Heritage & Habitation, City & Community and Structure & Safety - organically and in concert with each other, it aims at fostering human resources who can develop new technologies for social stabilization and put them into practical use based on acquired skills and design abilities related to safety mechanisms that support structural and urban spaces, as well as who can implement innovative and comprehensive research and development, by acquiring critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities on issues related to principles of symbiosis in the environmental spaces of buildings and cities and their design. It consists of courses in the Research Group of Structural and Urban Safety Design and the Research Group of Space Planning.

Research Group of Structural and Urban Safety Design

This course consists of three laboratories - Structural Analysis, Structural Environment and Urban Disaster Protection Planning - and covers the development of performance analysis technologies of building structural elements and damage-control technologies of structural systems, as well as the establishment of safety systems for structural and urban spaces, in order to realize a wide range of anti-disaster systems, from the protection of life, property and culture to the maintenance of urban society functions. We foster human resources who are capable of integrating advanced analysis techniques, which support structural and urban spaces from the viewpoint of natural science, and their application to space design.

Research Group of Human Settlement Design

This course consists of three laboratories - Architectural History and Design, Planning and Design of Living Environment, and Urban and Regional Design - and deals with education and research on redesigning related to the planning and designing of structural and urban spaces as well as the re-creation and co-creation of local communities to establish and promote global standards that support the establishment of personal spaces in northern environmental and cultural regions. To realize the next-generation environments that are required in the 21st century, we aim at establishing the planning and design (Viewpoints, Theories and Technologies) bases of structural and urban spaces that can support the sustainable development of higher-quality living environments, as well as promoting the establishment of participatory and co-creative design processes through collaboration with local communities, with the added perspective of community design.
