Bioelectrochemical ammonia nitrogen oxidation in microbial fuel cells (MFCs)
Research Topic
Waste water contains excessive nitrogen, which leads to eutrophication of water bodies and affects water resource utilization and water ecological security. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce nitrogen discharge in sewage and reduce nitrogen content in water. The traditional Biological nitrogen removal (BNR) process consisting of nitrification and denitrification is an energy-intensive process. Aeration is one of the most energy-intensive processes in conventional BNR. To reduce energy consumption, it is highly desirable to omit or reduce aeration.
