Koji TANI; graduated in 2009

I'm Tani. The Environmental Risk Engineering Laboratory carries out various studies related to water treatment. For three years, I myself carried out research on the analysis of agricultural chemicals by using computer simulations. Through this three-year period of research activity, I not only acquired expertise in programming and agricultural chemicals, but also enjoyed various valuable experiences such as attending and presenting at international academic meetings and authoring papers in English.

The Environmental Risk Engineering Laboratory makes a point of encouraging students to present at international academic meetings and all of my cohorts in the master's program, including myself, gave oral presentations at international academic meetings. None of us were comfortable with English when it came to submitting English papers in order to participate in academic meetings, but in the end we somehow managed to write them in English ourselves, although it was a struggle. As someone who could never manage to write undergraduate English compositions to my liking, I never imagined that I would ever author a paper in English. I am convinced, however, that the confidence that I gained from accomplishing this will be a valuable resource for me going forward in life.

In addition, although I have encountered various difficulties in advancing my research, I am convinced that the bonds that I formed in overcoming these challenges together with my cohorts and others in the laboratory are irreplaceable.

The Environmental Risk Engineering Laboratory offers many arenas and opportunities for people who heartily seek challenges and want to accomplish something in the academic world or to experience various things through research. I feel that the laboratory provides a fitting environment for such individuals. I recommend that anyone interested should most certainly visit the laboratory.
