About the laboratory
Description
Electromagnetic waves, such as light or radiation, and plasmas are used in various fields of industry. They are also used in the research and development of the nuclear fusion reactor, that is recognized as a future energy source. In recent years, the application of the electromagnetic waves and/or the plasmas have been widespread to the “biotechnology”, such as medical and agricultural fields. In order to expand these applicability of electromagnetic waves and plasmas, we have been tackling research. Our concrete goals are
- to clarify the characteristics of materials and living bodies (tissues) irradiated with light, electromagnetic waves or plasmas
- to investigate the characteristics of light, electromagnetic waves or plasmas,
by use of both the experiments and/or the numerical computations.
Organization of research
There are two types of groups: one performs numerical analyses, and the other conducts experiments.
Students in each group are exchanges techniques each other.
Members of both groups are discussed in the laboratory seminar.
We expect the student who discusses with supervisor frequently and actively.
Ongoing projects
- Development of analysis method for atmospheric plasma
- Development of the experimental method to measure three-dimensional electron density distribution
- Development of three-dimenstional computed tomographic reconstruction algorithm from incomplete measurement data
- Numerical analysis of electric field around teeth for the treatment of periodontitis
- Removal of material that gives off a strange odor in agricultural product using atomospheric plasma
- Evaluation of characteristics of hydrogen storage alloy using plasma
- Numerical analysis of particles in fusion reactor
Enrolled students' research topics
Topics will be presented by faculty members, but student suggestions are also welcome.
Information for potential applicants
Applicants' background
We are looking for people with good knowledge in plasma physics, electromagnetism, materials or mathematics.
Who should apply?
Students with a strong interest in the application of plasma physics for various fields, including laboratory experiments and computational analysis.
How to choose a research proposal topic?
The topic you propose shall be related to applications of plasma or measurements of plasma.
How the research proposal is evaluated?
We evaluate the student proposal based on (1) basic knowledge and understanding the research question, (2) strong motivation to solve the question and finish your Master's or Doctoral course (3) story of the proposal and logical discussion and (4) English.
