About the laboratory

Description

We are conducting education and research with the aim of applying the basic knowledge of mechanical engineerings, such as mechanics of materials, plasticity, thermo-fluid mechanics, optimal design, and vibration engineering, to a wide range of industrial fields.

  • Development of composites with remarkably high thermal conductivity using thermal conductivity networks composed of nanomaterials such as CNTs.
  • Safety evaluation of electronic devices.
  • Thermal and structural analysis of smartphones.
  • Stents used in the treatment of atherosclerosis.
  • Motion analysis of knee joints and development of artificial joints.
  • Optimal design of composites for aircraft structures. Vibration control of smart composites.
  • Vibration control of smart composites.

Through these research activities, we aim to provide research and education to develop human resources who can acquire the skills to solve any problem.

Organization of research

  • Research is conducted at the pace of the student.
  • Doctoral students are required to be more independent in their research activities and are also responsible for assisting master's students.
  • Experiments; Tailored Fiber Placement Machine, 3D printer for composite materials, composite molding equipment, static and dynamic mechanical properties measurement equipment,  etc.
  • Numerical analysis; high-performance workstation, explicit/implicit finite element analysis software, CAD software, programming software, etc.
  • Students who can think for themselves and actively conduct research are preferred.

Ongoing projects

Enrolled students' research topics

  • Basically, the teachers propose several research topics, and the students can choose from them.
  • Students are also welcome to propose their own themes.
  • Many of the themes are inherited, but there are also new themes.

Information for potential applicants

Applicants' background

We are looking for people with good knowledge of mechanical engineering.

Who should apply?

Students with a strong interest in mechanics of materials, plasticity, thermo-fluid mechanics, optimal design, and vibration engineering.

How to choose a research proposal topic?

It would be preferable if the proposal is related to the laboratory's research profile and the topic of the applicant's interest.

How the research proposal is evaluated?

We evaluate the student proposal based on (1) basic knowledge and understanding the research question, (2) strong motivation to solve the question and finish your Master's or Doctoral course (3) story of the proposal and logical discussion and (4) English.
