Wilderer教授はドイツ国内のカールスルーエ大学、ハンブルク工科大学、ミュ ンヘン工科大学の教授を歴任、2003年からはヨーロッパ科学技術アカデミーの Institute of Advanced Studies on Sustainabilityの所長を務めておられま す。専門は浄水および排水処理で、2003年に「水のノーベル賞」と称される Stockholm Water Prizeを受賞しておられますが、現在はヨーロッパにおける Sustainability学の第一人者としても著名で、東京大学サステイナビリティ学 連携研究機構(IR3S)にも招かれています。 今回のご講演は「Paradigm Shift in Water Management」と題されております が、Water Managementを実例に、「Sustainability」についても広くお話を伺 うことができると思います。「水」のご専門以外の方々にもぜひご出席いただ きたく、ここにご案内申しあげます。

Professor Wilderer is Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies on Sustainability, European Academy of Sciences and Arts.? He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge including over 20 years as professor at University of Karlsruhe, Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and
Technical University of Munchen (TUM) and is definitely one of most prominent researchers for wastewater treatment and solid waste management in the world.

He received the Stockholm Water Prize in 2003 for the development and demonstration of integrative approaches to water and wastewater management across the spectrum of fundamental research, applied research, technology implemen-tation and sustainable water management.

He is now recognized as one of leading researchers also in the field of the study on sustainability as evidenced by having an invitation to be an associate editors-in-chief for the journal "Sustainability Science".

Prof. Yoshimasa Watanabe, our COE Project Leader, has kept a good relationship with Prof. Wilderer for years and this time Prof. Wilderer kindly agreed to give a talk on water management based on his long years of research.?
