Research Theme and Outline

valuation of carbonization residue derived from municipal and industrial solid waste from a view of resource recovery and pre-treatment for landfill

any countries have paid attention to energy or resource recovery from MSW to cope with increasing energy demand but lack of natural resource as well as to achieve the goal of sustainable society and minimization of environmental impact. Char derived by carbonization process show many advantages as a resource in comparison to MSW or RDF due to improved quality and easy handling by pre- or thermal treatment. On the other hand, this work will take a new look at carbonization from a view of resource recovery and pretreatment for landfill as well.

Fig 1.Scope of research

Method

In this work, target wastes are carbonized at 500oC in rotary kiln reactor for one hour under the inert atmosphere. e will examine product char in the point of resource recovery and pretreatment of landfill as shown in Figure 2. In addition, removal of unfavorable components such as chlorine or ash will be examined to improve char in quality. On the other hand, landfill simulation test using column will be conducted to determine the stability of char during final disposal. Finally, for the purpose of integrated evaluation, we are going to deal with the problem of environmental load, energy and economic efficiency related to carbonization process.
