Syntrophic cooperation between Geobacter sulfurreducens strain PCA and Hydrogenophaga sp. AR20 in microbial fuel cell
Geobacter is the most representative member of the bacterial community in MFC fed with acetate and that can use electrodes as electron acceptor. It has been reported that mixed cultures appear more favorable than pure cultures of Geobacter based on both their much wider substrate specificity and power output. It suggests that there is syntrophic cooperation with other bacterium in anode communities. In this research, we investigate syntrophic cooperation between Geobacter and Hydrogenophaga sp. AR20. Hydrogenophaga sp. sAR20 is a hydrogen-oxidizing bacteria isolated from MFC in our laboratory.
