and scholarship |

To potential applicants: For a quick
search for professors conducting research of your interest, please click
here. You need not contact any professor in
advance. Just write down their names in the application form, we
will forward your application to them for consideration.
Scholarships
Applicants can apply
for scholarship through various sources.
e3
will assist with finding a suitable professor
willing to accept you.

Japanese government or
MEXT scholarships
- apply directly to
the program, use the program
application form (14 scholarships are available for
the October intake).
To be eligible to apply for MEXT scholarship,
applicants must be less than 35 years of age as
of April 1 of the enrollment year.

Japanese government
or
MEXT scholarships - apply
through the Japanese Embassy in the applicant's home country, use the
application form provided by the Japanese Embassy. To
obtain a letter of acceptance from
e3, applicant must submit a set of the same documents as those submitted
to the Japanese Embassy, all with a confirmation seal of the
Japanese Embassy affixed, and a certificate of the primary selection
issued by the Japanese Embassy. Applicant should indicate two professors or
laboratories he/she is interested in working with in his covering
message. Submission
of documents can be done by email.

Admission Qualifications Requirement
Doctoral Program
To be eligible for
admission to the doctoral program, an applicant must:
-
have strong
academic records (both undergraduate and graduate) and normally
hold a four-year bachelor's degree and a master's degree.
The minimum grade required for admission with the exemption from
the entrance examination is an equivalence of 3 on the 4-point
scale.

be able to
demonstrate research potentials through publications.

submit a brief
outline of dissertation research proposal.

submit other
supporting documents (described in the application form).
-
submit at least
two letters of recommendation.
Master's Degree Program
To be eligible for
admission to the master's program, an applicant must:

hold a Bachelor
degree (normally from a four-year program).

have undergraduate grades significantly above average. The
minimum grade required for admission with the exemption from the
entrance examination is an equivalence of 3 on the 4-point
scale.

submit other
supporting documents (described in the application form).
-
submit at least
two letters of recommendation.
| PROCEDURE FOR
OVERSEAS APPLICANTS WHOSE GRADE IS BELOW THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
Applicants whose grade is
below the minimum requirement are subject to an
entrance examination. To enable overseas
applicants to take an entrance examination, they should
enroll
as research student first.
Applicant should fill out the
application form for the program he/she intends to eventually enroll in
(doctoral or master) and send it to the
e3 office
together with necessary documents well in advance of the
normal application deadline.
If a professor in one of the laboratories indicated in the
application form agrees to accept the applicant as
research student first, the applicant will be asked to fill
out the research student application form. The
completed research application form must be received at
least three months before the planned enrollment.

Important! There are no scholarships for
research students. Moreover after the applicant
enrolled as a research student, he/she is no longer
eligible to apply for the MEXT scholarship from
e3 as
such scholarships are meant for students from overseas.

Requirement
If the applicant's native language is not English or the
medium of instruction at his previous university was not English, he
must submit an official test score from any of the following English
exams. The minimum scores are given in the table below.

Applicants who graduated from a
university where the medium of instruction is English should submit a
medium of instruction certificate issued by the university.
Application
forms
All overseas applicants
should provide at least two recommendation letters (not necessary to be in
this format) one of which should be from the your thesis supervisor.

Tuition fees
MEXT scholarships holders are exempted from
all fees. CSC scholarship holders will be provided a scholarship
in the amount equivalent to these fees.
Self-supporting graduate students (not research students) can apply for waiver of tuition fee and
scholarships from private organizations after enrollment. In
the 2009 academic year, 79.1% of the applicants were granted half-fee
waiver and 2.5% full-fee waiver.
