On behalf of the Asian Concrete Federation, the 3rd ACF Symposium on Assessment and Intervention of Existing Structures is organized under the auspices of the Japan Concrete Institute. The symposium will be held at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, from September 10-11, 2019.

The Asian Concrete Federation (ACF) was officially established in 2004, as rapid growth in the Asian Region led to the generation of a tremendous amount of research and practical information, as well as the development and adoption of new technologies for concrete structures. Since its establishment in 2004, ACF has held international conferences every 2 years in various Asian countries, and these conferences have served as a good venue for information exchange and other activities, such as technical meetings of related committees and social meetings of participants. During the 6th ACF Conference, held in Seoul, South Korea, in 2014, it was decided to organize an "ACF Symposium" in alternate years to the ACF Conference. The 1st ACF Symposium on Ultra High Performance Concrete was held in Kolkata, India (October 7, 2015), and the 2nd ACF Symposium on Innovations for Sustainable Concrete Infrastructures was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand (November 23-25, 2017). The 3rd ACF Symposium will then be held in Sapporo, Japan, on September 10-11, 2019.

The main theme of the 3rd ACF Symposium is "Assessment and Intervention of Existing Structures." Nowadays, inspection, monitoring, evaluation, prediction, maintenance and intervention, and optimal life cycle management are the focus of intensive research and technical development and implementation. As a part of the Symposium, the Professor Tamon Ueda Special Session is planned to honor his accomplishments in the field of maintenance and repair. He is also one of the founders of ACF and ICCMC (International Committee on Concrete Model Code for Asia), and has made a sustained contribution to expand ACF activities.

The Symposium aims at providing an appropriate atmosphere for the exchange of experiences related to the assessment and intervention of concrete structures for the purpose of effective utilization of structures. The Symposium will bring together academics, researchers, and practicing professionals, bridging the gap between theory and practice in this field. This Symposium will be another meaningful ACF event for exchange and networking among all the participants.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at the 3rd ACF Symposium.
